Mussel farming

The rafts, our nurseries

Along with the mussel breeding, they are the foundation of our farming. These nurseries support the ropes that, after two years of care, will yield fresh and tasty fruit.

Every day, very early, we leave for our mussel farms.

The first task of the day will be to check the raft, examining each rope to remove any algae and predators attached to it.

Hand-stringed

The mussels are manually strung onto the ropes. Each cone of mussels is secured with a biodegradable net.

Unbundling the ropes

Once the mussels have reached a certain size, our bateeiros extract the mussels and divide them into several ropes. This way, the mussels can fully develop and be harvested at their perfect state of maturity.

The Harvest, the Result of Two Years of Work

When the Campaign arrives, our fleet will return each day laden with mussels. After a slow, patient, and meticulous process, we harvest the fruit the sea has given us. Directly from the sea to the workshop, and from there to our home kitchen.

We’re going home

After a long day of work, sometimes punctuated by waves and the harsh winter, and sometimes blessed with good weather, we gather around, grateful for the day’s bountiful harvest. The next morning, we return to the sea with the same love and dedication as always.
